How the Price Is Built

Batting is priced per square inch of the expanded area (width +10 inches by height +10 inches) to provide a 5-inch overage on all sides for secure quilting. Options include Customer Provided ($0), Hobbs 80/20 ($0.0035/sq-in), Hobbs 80/20 Bleached White ($0.0040/sq-in), Hobbs 80/20 Black ($0.0037/sq-in), Bamboo Blend 50/50 ($0.0048/sq-in), Poly Batting ($0.0029/sq-in), 100% Wool ($0.0054/sq-in), or Both Wool + 80/20 ($0.0089/sq-in). This ensures no shortages mid-quilt.

Batting integrates into your total quote alongside quilting (e.g., edge-to-edge at $0.02750/sq-in of quilt area plus $0.0015/sq-in handling), thread ($0-40 one-time), and add-ons like binding ($0.10-0.20/inch of perimeter). The $75 minimum quilting fee covers small projects. Use our calculator at /longarm-quote/ for precise totals.

Special factors like pieced backing prep ($25 flat) or rush ($60 flat) add to the grand total but dont affect batting directly. Trimming/squaring is $5 flat, binding prep $25.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is batting sized for my quilt?

We add 5 inches to width and height ((W+10)x(H+10)) for secure loading on the Q24 frame. This prevents shortages. Customer batting must match this expanded size. Free if you provide it. See calculator for your quilts amount.

Whats the cheapest batting option?

Poly batting at $0.0029/sq-in when we supply. Customer-provided is $0. Great for budget throws. Hobbs 80/20 ($0.0035) is most popular for loft.

Can I provide my own batting?

Yes, always free - just ensure it matches (W+10)x(H+10) with 5in overage. We recommend Hobbs or similar for longarm. Saves the most on costs.

Does batting affect the $75 minimum?

No, minimum applies only to quilting portion. Batting is separate add-on. Small quilts hit min easily.

What if I want wool batting?

100% Wool $0.0054/sq-in or Wool+80/20 blend $0.0089/sq-in. Premium for warmth/drape. Calculate exact via /longarm-quote/.

How does batting fit into total cost?

Added after quilting/thread. Grand total = quilting (min 75) + batting + borders + binding etc. Transparent formula, no surprises.
