Maynard Longarm Quilting — Service
Edge-to-Edge Longarm Quilting — Affordable All-Over Design
Edge-to-edge quilting is the most economical way to finish your quilt with a continuous, all-over pattern that runs from edge to edge. It’s perfect for quilters who want professional machine quilting without the custom design cost, and it works beautifully on any quilt size or fabric combination. At Maynard Longarm Quilting, we use computerized pantograph designs on our Bernina Q24 frame to stitch a single cohesive pattern across your entire quilt top. This service includes batting, thread, and return shipping — you just send us your finished top and backing. Edge-to-edge is ideal for modern quilts, traditional pieced tops, and anything in between where you want a polished, finished look without breaking the bank.

Edge-to-edge quilting uses a computerized design that repeats continuously across your entire quilt from one edge to the other. On our Bernina Q24 frame, we load your quilt sandwich and follow the pantograph pattern — a pre-digitized stitch path that the machine guides us through with precision. The design flows seamlessly across seams, borders, and background, creating a unified quilted surface. Because the pattern is computer-aided, we can repeat it consistently without manual adjustment, which keeps costs down and turnaround fast. The result is a professionally finished quilt that looks like it was custom-designed just for you, even though you’re choosing from proven, beautiful patterns.
Edge-to-edge quilting suits almost any quilt — baby quilts, throws, bed quilts, wall hangings, and even table runners. It works equally well on heavily pieced traditional designs, modern minimalist tops, and appliqué quilts. The technique shines when your quilt top is already visually interesting; the quilting adds texture and dimension without competing for attention. Busy, multi-fabric tops benefit from edge-to-edge because the all-over pattern ties everything together. Light, solid-colored quilts also look stunning with edge-to-edge because the quilting lines become a design feature in their own right.
The look of edge-to-edge quilting is clean, professional, and evenly textured across the entire surface. Stitch density is moderate — typically around 6 to 8 stitches per inch, depending on the pattern you choose — which gives good definition without heavy quilting. The continuous line creates secondary patterns and visual movement that enhance your piecing. Because the design repeats, you’ll see rhythm and flow rather than random stitching. The finished quilt has a polished, intentional appearance that reads as ‘professionally quilted’ to anyone who sees it.

Choose edge-to-edge quilting if you want professional machine quilting at the most affordable price point, or if your quilt top is already visually strong and doesn’t need custom motif placement. It’s ideal when you’re on a budget, working with a smaller project (baby quilt or throw), or when you love the simplicity of a cohesive all-over pattern. Edge-to-edge is also perfect if you’re new to longarm quilting and want to experience the quality without the investment of custom design. If you want custom motifs in specific blocks, special ruler work, or intricate stitch-in-ditch around appliqués, you’d be better served by our Custom or Special Block services. But if you want beautiful, professional results fast and affordably, edge-to-edge is the sweet spot.
How It Compares to Other Quilting Styles
| Alternative | How It Differs |
|---|---|
| Basting Only | Basting is the most economical option if you want to finish quilting yourself at home. We layer and lightly stitch your quilt, then you take it from there. Edge-to-edge costs more but gives you a completely finished, professional quilt ready to bind and enjoy. |
| Special Block & Motif Placement | Block placement quilting lets you choose custom designs for specific blocks or areas, creating a more personalized look. It costs more than edge-to-edge because of the extra design work and masking labor. Choose block placement if your quilt has standout blocks you want to showcase. |
| Ruler Work & Stitch-in-Ditch | Ruler work and stitch-in-ditch are precision techniques perfect for appliqué quilts or designs where you want quilting to follow specific seams or shapes. These services cost more than edge-to-edge and require more setup time. They’re ideal if your quilt design demands structural quilting rather than all-over texture. |
| Complete Custom Quilting | Custom quilting is fully freehand design tailored to your specific quilt — no pantographs, unlimited creativity. It’s the most expensive option but delivers one-of-a-kind artistry. Choose custom if your quilt is a special project or heirloom where you want truly unique quilting. |
| Special Borders | Special border quilting adds a distinct design to your quilt’s border while keeping the center edge-to-edge or custom. This hybrid approach costs more than straight edge-to-edge but less than full custom. It’s great if you want to frame your quilt with a signature border design. |

Why Customers Choose Maynard Longarm Quilting
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does edge-to-edge quilting take?
Turnaround is typically 2 to 4 weeks depending on our current queue. We’ll give you an exact timeline when you submit your quote. If you need your quilt faster, we offer rush service for an additional fee. Once we start quilting, most quilts are finished within a few days — the wait is usually in the scheduling.
Can I choose which pantograph design you use?
Yes! We work with you to select a design that complements your quilt top and your vision. We have a library of beautiful all-over patterns — geometrics, florals, modern designs, and more. If you have a specific style in mind, let us know and we’ll find the perfect match or suggest designs we think will work beautifully.
What if I want to provide my own batting and thread?
Absolutely — you can bring your own batting and thread, and we’ll adjust your pricing accordingly. Just make sure your batting is in good condition and your thread is suitable for longarm quilting. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to recommend reliable options.
How much does edge-to-edge quilting cost?
Edge-to-edge quilting is $0.0275 per square inch, plus a small handling fee. For example, a 50-inch by 60-inch throw quilt would cost around $87 for quilting alone. Batting, thread, binding, and other add-ons are separate. Use our online quote calculator at /longarm-quote/ to get an exact price for your specific quilt size and options.
Do you include binding in the edge-to-edge price?
Binding is optional and priced separately. We can trim and square your quilt for $5, prepare binding for $25, and then stitch it on at $0.10 per inch (top only) or $0.20 per inch (both sides). Or you can take your quilt home after quilting and bind it yourself. It’s completely up to you.
What size quilts can you handle?
Our Bernina Q24 frame accommodates quilts up to about 24 inches wide and any length. We can quilt baby quilts, throws, bed quilts, and even larger projects — just let us know your dimensions when you request a quote. If your quilt is wider than our frame, we can discuss alternatives or special arrangements.
Is there a minimum order or quilt size?
We have a $75 minimum quilting fee, which means very small projects like table runners or baby quilts are affordable and worthwhile. Even a tiny quilt gets the same professional care and attention as a king-size bed quilt.
What happens if my quilt top has loose seams or damage?
We inspect every quilt when it arrives. Minor issues like loose seams can usually be repaired quickly. If there’s significant damage, we’ll contact you before proceeding and discuss options. It’s best to inspect your top carefully before sending and let us know about any concerns upfront.
